The businesses of Bayside have a beautiful way of growing from a quiet leap of faith, and Julie from @thejuliastyleedit is a perfect example of what happens when you finally back yourself. What started as a small, personal project — a way back to work that actually felt right — has blossomed into a thriving style community built around one refreshingly simple idea: that great style starts with what you already own.
How long have you been in business?
2 years
What inspired you to start?
I decided to go back to work after I had my last child as I knew I didn’t want any more kids. It panicked me a bit as I had a job I didn’t love. My hubby and friends encouraged me to pursue my dream so I started following loads of lifestyle accounts and they looked fun! I Started small, just for me really but it has now grown!
What is your point of difference?
I have tried to hone in on styling my clothes that I wear every day. To show people styling using pieces they most probably already have in their wardrobe. Especially if you are a busy Mum like me. I also love discovering new brands and showcasing them in my page.
What is your style?
I like to call it ‘elevated casual’. I don’t love to get super dressed up so it sits somewhere in between. I still want to feel like I’ve made an effort.
What do you love about Community?
I am a bit of an introvert so I was concerned about going on Instagram, however I haven’t had one negative comment. Instead I have been able to connect with a beautiful and supportive community, which wasn’t an expectation but a great outcome.
What is your fave coffee shop and coffee order?
Almond chai @stevie_sandringham. I drop the kids off at school, go for a walk and grab a chai latte.
If your business was a cocktail, what would it be?
Gin – a clean, classic, elegant g&t with good quality ingredients and a simple orange slice as a garnish.
