Celebrating the local legends who make our community thrive! Today, we’re featuring Dom from Dominic Vincent Horticulture @dominic_hooghuis.
Here’s his story…
How long have you been in business?
When I was in my 20’s, I was in a band so I started out working as a gardener in between tours. I then moved to Melbourne in 2011 which was when I started this business. I was also one of the cofounders of @plantrunnertruck – which sells a range of bespoke indoor plant care products
What inspired you to start this business?
I was lucky enough to grow up on a large amount of land out in the forest. This was well before iPhones etc so we spent our day playing in the forest & in treehouses. My parents were constantly gardening, landscaping, building walls etc. So essentially this is where I caught the bug and became interested in creating beautiful outdoor spaces.
What does community mean to you?
It takes a while to get that sense of community in a new area but once you do, it’s magical. It gives you a sense of belonging and also a sense of security because we all look out for each other.
Do you have a local Bayside business you love and want to shout out?
I love to support local and do so wherever I can!! I am a regular @thomas.st.grocery.
What is the best compliment you have received?
I have had quite a few customers say they don’t want to sell their house now – they love their garden too much!
What is the most rewarding part of your business?
Definitely the relationships we have created. I have become friends with most of my clients. This is a huge contributor to the feeling of being part of a community.
