The businesses of Bayside blend family tradition with stunning locations, and today we’re celebrating seasoned hospitality entrepreneurs who have created a magical waterfront dining experience with over a decade of community connection.
Day 24 of Businesses of Bayside
Celebrating the local legends who make our community thrive! Today, we’re featuring Erica & Jamie from @cerberusbeachhouse.
Here’s their story…
How long have you been in business?
15 years for the Cerberus Beach House and the kiosk downstairs. We also have an Italian restaurant in Black Rock we started 7 years ago called @ventuno21au which specialises in woodfired pizzas.
What is one misconception people have about your business?
That we are only open in the summer! We are open all year round – the views from our restaurant are amazing at any time of the year – especially when you can see a storm rolling in.
What inspired you to start this business?
We have always been in hospitality. It was a chance meeting, only 2 months after arriving in Australia, where we met the person selling the business on Xmas Eve. It was exactly what we were looking for so we took over the business the following July – it was meant to be!
How did you come up with the name?
It was originally called Cerberus cafe. But we wanted to add the word ‘beach’ given its location and ‘house or home’ given it was a family run business – both of our children still work in the business!
This area and in particular the Cerberus, is pretty special. Can you share more?
The Cerberus has quite a history. It is so special – almost magical! It was settled in its spot for breakwater in 1926. There are so many people that have memories swimming out there as kids. Coming to the area with their families and eating fish & chips on the beach.
How important is community to you?
Community is very important to us. We support many of the local schools for fundraising and all of our staff are intrinsically linked to the community. We have had a lot of our staff with us for over 8 years – they become part of our extended family. And we also have an amazing wee community down here with the @theblackrockyachtclub and @halfmoonslsc . I love that we all support each other!
Let’s support local! If you love businesses like Erica & Jamie’s, give them a follow, drop by, and spread the word!
