The businesses of Bayside have a beautiful way of being born from a gap that two people with the same eye simply couldn’t ignore, and Christine and Fifi from @ikos.home are the perfect example of what happens when sister-in-laws, shared taste, and a empty shopfront collide. What started as a conversation about a missing local homewares store turned into a fully renovated space within a month — and even a global pandemic couldn’t stop the momentum, it only built the anticipation.
How long have you been in business?
In the industry 15 yrs and this business 4 yrs.
What inspired you to start?
We’ve both always had a passion for interiors and design, and as sister-in-laws, it was only a matter of time before we dreamt something up together! One day we were chatting and realised there wasn’t a local homewares store that truly spoke to our style—so we decided to create it ourselves. The very next week, we drove past this space, instantly saw the potential, and within a month had it fully renovated. Then—COVID hit. But oddly enough, it became a blessing in disguise. Locals walking past every day got curious and excited about the store opening. When we finally launched, the community was ready!
What is the magic that sets you apart?
We’ve worked hard to curate a collection that reflects our unique aesthetic—earthy, soft, organic, and neutral tones. A big part of our magic comes from collaborating with local artists like @simone.karras and @sarahdarbyfashionillustration which adds a personal, handmade touch you won’t find everywhere. We love discovering and supporting small, emerging makers and helping bring their work to life in our space. And beyond retail, we run styling masterclasses and offer personalised home styling services.
What does being part of a community mean?
This end of Hampton Street has its own special vibe—referred to as the “Paris end”—and we really want to build on that charm. For us, community means collaboration over competition. There’s a genuine spirit of support among local businesses. We’re so lucky to have such lovely customers and locals who pop in just to say hi
