The businesses of Bayside are driven by genuine care and community spirit, and today we’re celebrating a local optometrist who has turned her lifelong passion for helping people see clearly into a thriving practice that supports families and raises awareness about children’s eye health.
Day 25 of Businesses of Bayside
Celebrating the local legends who make our community thrive! Today, we’re featuring Lucija from @basecurveoptical and @dry_eye_relief_clinic
Here’s her story…
How long have you been in business?
6 years in this business – 18 yrs in optics.
What inspired you to start this business?
I started wearing glasses when I was 4 & a 1/2 so glasses have always been a part of my life. I always had a burning desire to start my own business in optics and spent many years managing other people’s practices until I decided to take the leap and start my own business. Starting from scratch was a challenge – especially coming into Covid – but I made it work and still pinch myself everyday!
What is the most rewarding part of your business?
My biggest joy comes from helping children and guiding them – bridging the period between not wearing glasses and wearing glasses. More and more kids are needing glasses because of time on screens, so I want to raise awareness about the impact on our kids eyes.
What does community mean to you?
The local Sandy community has been amazing in helping my business grow. I am very much involved as I like to see my community thrive and believe it helps in improving people’s overall wellbeing.
What is your business’ ‘secret ingredient’?
I genuinely come from a place of wanting to help people – it’s not all transactional. I want to provide the best product available and utilise the latest technology. As well as providing a comprehensive optical service, we also specialise in sports eyewear, provide the latest biometric intelligent glasses (Rodenstock – Dneye) and offer a dry eye clinic as well.
Are there any local Bayside businesses you love and want to shout out?
Yes – them all! I try to utilise the local Sandy business community as much as possible – I buy all of my presents in Sandy, my chiro is @vida_lifestyles, my wardrobe is from @ms.h_lifestyle, my daily coffee from @stevie_sandringham, and Acai from @acaibrothers_sandringham
Let’s support local! If you love businesses like Lucija’s, drop by, and spread the word!
